This remarkable achievement marked a resurgence for Ethiopian Airlines, which had held the esteemed title for three consecutive years from 2018 until it was dethroned by Kenya Airways in 2021. After two years of being in the shadow, Ethiopian Airlines reigned supreme once again, reaffirming its dominance in the African aviation landscape.

Ethiopian Airlines didn’t stop at just the ‘Africa’s Leading Airline’ accolade. The airline continued its winning streak by securing two more awards, ‘Best Business Class’ and ‘Leading Airline Brand’ for the year 2023. These accolades underscored Ethiopian Airlines’ commitment to providing top-tier service and its significant influence in the aviation industry.

With an extensive network that spans over 150 domestic and international destinations across five continents, Ethiopian Airlines has become an industry steamroller. Its dedication to offering world-class services to passengers has solidified its position as a true leader in the African aviation sector.

In a reflection of the highly competitive aviation industry, Kenya Airways also enjoyed success at the 2023 World Travel Awards. The Kenyan carrier clinched the title of ‘Africa’s Leading Airline – Economy Class,’ affirming its commitment to providing exceptional services to passengers in the economy segment.

Kenya Airways also celebrated another win as their inflight magazine, ‘Msafiri,’ was named ‘Africa’s Leading Inflight Magazine, a reality to delivering quality content and information to passengers. Furthermore, their wholly-owned subsidiary, Jambojet, was recognized as ‘Africa’s Leading Low-Cost Airline,’ showcasing their commitment to affordability and accessibility.

The World Travel Awards (WTA), established in 1993, have consistently celebrated excellence in the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries. This year’s event marked a significant turning point in the aviation sector, with Ethiopian Airlines reclaiming its throne as ‘Africa’s Leading Airline.’ Notably, South African Airways had held the prestigious title for 22 consecutive years, starting in 1994, until Kenya Airways dethroned it in 2016.

Ethiopian Airlines’ resurgence is not only evidence to its untiring commitment to excellence but also a symbol of the ever-evolving landscape of African aviation. As they continue to connect continents and exceed customer expectations, their return to the top is a celebration of Africa’s growing influence in the global aviation industry.
