Etihad Airways celebrates first flight with the Pontiff

Global religious leader for Catholic Church, His Holiness Pope Francis yesterday traveled to Abu Dhabi for a three-day trip aboard Etihad Airways.

The pontiff’s three day visit in the gulf is meant to strengthen interfaith dialogue and understanding support of peace.

The airline has gone an extra mile to not only celebrate an exciting  flight with the pope but also to jubilate the papal visit coupled with festivities in their offices and onboard its flight in recognition of UAE’s Year of Tolerance.

Pope Francis in Abu Dhabi

The pope will be delivering a mass at Zayed Sports City to a congregation of over 120,000 this Tuesday 5th February  as Etihad Airways will be broadcasting  live the historic event aboard their aircraft’s inflight entertainment  screens and throughout the airline’s lounges worldwide.

At the end of his visit, Etihad Airways is will be flying the pontiff back to Rome’s Ciampino Airport on an Etihad Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

His Holiness Pope Francis and His Eminence Dr Ahmad At-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al Azhar Al Sharif will attend the Human Fraternity Conference, a global inter-faith gathering in the UAE capital aimed at bringing together faiths and cultures with an aim to foster tolerance and inter-faith dialogue.

As usual, Pope Francis travelled from Rome Fiumicino to Abu Dhabi on 3 February onboard an Alitalia aircraft, a Boeing 777-200ER registered EI-DBM.  The flight number, also as usual for such flights, was AZ4000.
