The much anticipated campaign follows in the footsteps of the previous Explore Uganda campaigns—Explore Bunyoro, Explore North, Explore West, and Explore Elgon. These initiatives are more than just journeys; they’re a call to boost domestic tourism, encouraging locals to traverse the diverse landscapes of their own backyard.

“From the 13th to the 17th of December 2023, we will be embarking on a campaign called Explore Busoga. One of the highlights will be the Kagulu Rock climbing Challenge in Buyende District,” Minister Mugarra shared with infectious enthusiasm.

Despite recent challenges, including an incident in Queen Elizabeth National Park and travel advisories from the USA and UK, Minister Mugarra commended the resilience of the tourism sector. Speaking at the Uganda Media Center, he expressed gratitude to Ugandans who embraced the domestic campaign messages, emphasizing that no one can showcase the country better than its own people.

The Explore Uganda campaigns aim to dispel myths surrounding travel, debunking notions of it being an expensive or exclusive pursuit for foreigners. Minister Mugarra passionately advocated for more Ugandans to explore their own country, revealing the affordability of experiences like visiting National Parks with entrance fees under Shs 30,000 for East African nationals.

With a dynamic nightlife scene where extravagant spending on a bottle of whiskey exceeds Shs 500,000, Minister Mugarra urged Ugandans to redirect such funds towards exploring their own National Parks. He emphasized that firsthand experiences would be the most compelling marketing tool for the nation.

Posing for a triumphant picture with the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope IV, after summiting Kagulu Hill in a recent challenge, Minister Mugarra celebrated the spirit of adventure that defines the Explore Uganda series.

Beyond the thrill of exploration, the government’s push for domestic tourism serves a strategic purpose—strengthening the industry’s resilience and reducing dependence on foreign tourists. In the face of unforeseen disruptions like pandemics, a stable domestic tourism component becomes the industry’s shield against adverse effects.

As the Explore Busoga campaign unfolds, tourists and travel enthusiasts can revel in the wonders of Jinja, East Africa’s adventure capital. This vibrant region offers marine adventures along the Nile and a myriad of attractions, including the Source of the Nile, Uganda Railway Museum, Busowoko Falls, and Bujagali. Immerse yourself in the rich cultural tapestry of Busoga, where each experience becomes a chapter in the story of Uganda’s hidden gem.
