Formerly stranded Tourists repatriated from Uganda amid travel ban

Following a total ban by the government of Uganda on all passenger flights and cross boarder movements, no one has been allowed in and out of the country over the past few weeks. However, over the weekend, more than 250 international tourists and visitors from 20 different countries flew out from Entebbe international airport to Cologne on a repatriation flight organized by German foreign office.

Yesterday, Monday 6th 2020, through a post on its authentic Facebook page, the German Embassy in Uganda made the pronunciation about the matter. The post read as bellow;

“On Saturday 4th April, more than 250 German and other stranded tourists and visitors, volunteers, and vulnerable people flew safely out from Entebbe to Cologne on a repatriation flight of German Foreign office. We hope to see many of them returning to Uganda once the crisis is over and travel options return back to normal.”

Today, the same embassy applauded the people that tirelessly assisted in this repatriation exercise and helped see it through as a success.

“We want to thank the people who supported the embassy in organizing this operation at short notice especially the Government of Uganda, various authorities throughout the country as well as our partner embassies. The freight carried passengers from 20 different countries.”

It should however be noted that Uganda’s boarders remain closed and freights are only restricted to cargo. Public transport and movement of private vehicles without permission is also still restricted with in the country. A movement curfew is undergoing for any persons moving out of their homes starting 7pm to 6:30am.
