Lingala music gained momentum in Uganda from 50s,60s,70s,80s until 90s when a new wave of local music occupied radio and television frequencies from then young and focussed Ugandan youth led by Jose Chameleone, Bebe Cool and currently Kyadondo East Parliamentary legislator Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine among others who gave Ugandans a new local musical taste.
Discotheques including Kampala by night earlier on situated in Kololo before rebranding to Angenoir discotheque and now Guvnor Uganda among other night spots, radio stations and televisions paved more way for Airplay and highly turned musicians from Democratic Republic of Congo and counter parts of Ivory coast into house hold names in the beautiful Pearl of Africa.
Some of the Congolese artists who rocked Uganda by then included; Kanda Bongoman, Franco, Tabuley, Koffi Olomide, Madilu, Loketo, Wenge Musica 4-by-4, Pepe Kalle, Awilo Longomba, Papa Wemba, General Defao, Extra Musica and many more.
For this case, Guvnor felt the need to take its patrons way back memory lane to reminisce the old good times as the saying goes ‘’Old is Gold’’. This Friday 24th August 2018, great hits from Congolese superstars will cover up the entire night as in-house Deejays will strictly play Lingala music.
The night will also spice up DJ mixes with Congolese Chido Explosion Band who will play on the night as well.
Pass by and enjoy great sounds of Rhumba, Kwasa Kwasa and Soukous as you dance whole night.
