Johnnie Moments as Kool & The Gang rock Kampala.

Kampala, Uganda – The Kool and The Gang Live in Kampala concert easily passes for the concert of the year 2016.

The event ticked all the boxes, the location at Kololo Airstrip, ample parking space, the audience comprising the old folks and millennials, the set-up by Silk Events – exquisite, the sound and lighting all came together to give the concert the oomph and credence it deserved.

To top it all off, the VIP section at the event exuded elegance, class and leading chief executives from top companies dotted the severally well laid tables. To enhance the classy setting, Johnnie Walker Black Label was the drink of choice.

The event was indeed one, if not the biggest disco themed production in Uganda’s recent past. Kool & The Gang had promised to give Ugandans an epic show and going by the reception of the audience, they indeed lived up to that promise.

From the moment the evening’s announcers; Val Okecho and Isaac Rucci said the Gang was coming up, it was all systems go.

Actually, more than half of the VIP edged closer to the stage, dancing and singing along to the songs that made the band popular back in the 70s, 80s and 90s.

It was a sight to marvel as executives; Hans Paulsen of Vivo Energy, Ambassador Waswa Birigwa and his wife Yogi, Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) Managing Director Mark Ocitti engaged in a mini-dance off of sorts. Who won the duel, only they know because moments later, they all returned to sip away at their Black Labels.

The song line up that the American funk, rhythm and blues band performed was equally impressive; Fresh, Celebration, Cherish, Fresh, Jungle Boogie, Joanna, Too Hot, Lets Go Dancing, Summer Madness, Get Down On It and Ladies Night.

Lois Aber, the Johnnie Walker Brand Manager at UBL was equally in upbeat mood saying; “This is a historic night in Uganda’s entertainment circles. Johnnie Walker is proud to have been part of this electric night that will for long live in the memories of everyone who attended.”
