Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei on Wednesday 7th October smashed the 10,000m world record in a time of 26 minutes 11.00 seconds in Valencia, beating Ethiopia’s Kenenisa Bekele’s 15-year-old time by more than six seconds.
Harnessing on an Opportunity in the Covid-19 Era
Joshua Cheptegei managed to maneuver through the lockdown and well utilized the Covid-19 situation for maximum athlete training in the hills of his Kapchorwa home in Eastern Uganda.
By the time of Airport reopening on 1st October, he was already fired up for an adrenaline dripping race in in the NN Valencia most competitive race.
In a year fully disorganized by the Coronavirus global pandemic, Joshua managed to break even thereby rising his Status through setting a 4th World record straight in a 10 months period hence downsizing Ethiopian National Kenenisa Bekele’s 15 year world history of the same race and time by more than six seconds.
Excited Winner and now Golden boy of Uganda Joshua Cheptegei revealed in a post-race interview that, “I wanted to live upto expectations and so am grateful to attain my dream”
