KLM Royal Dutch Airlines on Wednesday July 1st last week restarted flights to destination Dar es Salaam in Tanzania.
The restoration of KLM scheduled commercial operations to the Dar es Salaam route comes at a time Tanzania relaxed on the Tourism sector in the month of May where flights that ferry in Tourists to Tanzania were allowed as the Airport was reopened under guidelines from the Ministry of health together with Tanzania Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism as implementation of Covid-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) was to be enforced to avoid further spread of the coronavirus from both international tourists and the crew both at the Airport and those in the tourism and hospitality sector as their health and safety is key priority.
Upon KLM’s first arrival flight since ban on international air travel in March this year, Tanzania Tourist Board in partnership with Julius Nyerere International Airport and Tanzania Department of Immigration gave the flight a warm welcome back to the Country and invited KLM’s passengers back to yet another unforgettable experience with a welcome slogan ‘’Karibuni Tanzania’’
It should be recalled that in May this year, Tanzanian Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism laid down strategies on restarting the Country’s Tourism Industry after almost months of international mandatory halt on Tourists and travelers across the World after Coronavirus, a global pandemic took its toll on the Global Tourism, travel and Aviation industry when nations closed down borders and airports from international travel as a direct means of curbing down the spread of the virus in different countries as allowed flights were only Cargo for essential items and Citizen repatriation of concerned countries of their people living and working in foreign countries amidst tight lockdowns in respective countries globally which didn’t spare Tanzania although she didn’t put the Country on Lockdown.
Currently, KLM’s flight restart comes at a time most International Airlines are recommencing flights for international travel as most of them had grounded their fleet and laid off majority of their staff leaving just a few of the aircrafts operating Cargo flights for essential items and repatriating citizens back to their home countries as KLM was not exceptional in this milestone while it contributed greatly.
Tanzanian Government and the Private sector (Tanzanian Tourism and travel operators) in May 2020, worked out on plans to convince tourists get back to the Country and enjoy amazing adventures while international passenger flights were reinstated across the world.
