More Six countries barred from entry and transit by the Emirates

The total number of countries barred from entry into or transit through the United Arab Emirates has increased to seventeen from eleven as by close of last year.

The UAE earlier last year imposed travel restrictions on a number of African countries due to the surging Omicron Corona variant. The pandemic induced restrictions affect passengers who have been or transited through the respective countries with in the last fortinight (14 days).

According to a circular posted on the Emirate’s website, passengers from the said countries are not permitted to enter or transit through UAE’s economic hub of Dubai.

This is the List of banned countries:

  1. Angola
  2. Botswana
  3. Democratic Republic of Congo
  4. Eswantini
  5. Ethiopia
  6. Guinea
  7. Kenya
  8. Lesetho
  9. Mozambique
  10. Namibia
  11. Nigeria
  12. Zimbabwe
  13. Rwanda
  14. South Africa
  15. Tanzania
  16. Uganda
  17. Ghana

The update notice also read, “the following passengers are exempt from the suspension and can travel to Dubai. Employees of Official missions between the UAE and the aforesaid countries, UAE nationals, first degree relative(s) and their domestic/ house workers/helpers and members of the Diplomatic missions between the UAE and the aforesaid countries.”


“All other exempt passengers must present a negative COVID-19 PCR test certificate with a QR code for a test conducted at an approved facility within 48 hours of departure. Validity must be calculated from the time the sample was collected.

“They must also present a negative COVID-19 Rapid or Real Time PCR test certificate with a QR code for a test conducted at the departure airport within 06 hours of departure.

“[They] Must undergo COVID-19 PCR test on arrival and must remain in self-quarantine until they receive the test result. Only children under the age of 12 and passengers who have a moderate or severe disability are exempt from taking a COVID-19 PCR test,” the statement added.
