Pearl Magic is a fresh, authentic channel that will broadcast content purely skewed for the Ugandan audience.

“We are excited to introduce Pearl Magic, a channel that is truly Ugandan with a focus on Ugandan content. For a while, we’ve had Maisha Magic East that broadcasts Ugandan content once a week but we knew we needed more customized content relevant to our own Ugandan people. This is going to bring additional value to our DStv subscribers in terms of resonance with a channel that they can claim ownership to. This channel also demonstrates our investment in growing local content that resonates with our subscribers and our continued support to the growth and development of the African entertainment industry” Commented Albert Nga, Marketing Manager MultiChoice Uganda.

Pearl Magic Channel will go by the slogan “Ours Truly’’, “Kyaffe ddala”.  It will depict Uganda’s true patriotic nature and love for all that represents us as a country. The channel name is befitting given that the name Pearl of Africa was popularized by Winston Churchill in his 1908 book which referred to Uganda as the Pearl of Africa because of its natural wonders and people.

“This is the ideal scenario for our GOtv subscribers, who as we know are much attuned to local channels. We felt this would be an important addition to their channel line up to give them a reason to be proud of our heritage as a country, by supporting authentic Ugandan material. Our GOtv Max subscribers can look forward to dramas, music shows, series, telenovella’s, and movies such as Mistakes Girls Make, Doli Armaano ki, 5 @ Home, and Ugandan movie slots and more. The channel will broadcast in a language that majority of our audience understand –Luganda with minimum English and subtitles were required.” Nga emphasized.

Pearl Magic will be available to DStv subscribers on Premium, Compact Plus, Compact and Family on channel 161. GOtv subscribers can catch the channel on GOtv MAX, channel 304. Active DStv subscribers can also access the channel using the DStv Now app anytime, anywhere on their mobile phones or tablets.

Speaking on behalf of Uganda Communication Commission, Meddie Kaggwa, Head of Content said, “We are proud that MultiChoice has set the pace for the Ugandan film industry through this initiative that has opened an avenue of endless opportunities for the industry. We appreciate the support from our partners MultiChoice and encourage those in the industry to fully exploit this platform”.

We now have a home for our content and it’s a challenge for us to ensure our standards match the expectations of viewers. This is the time for Ugandan content and our film industry to catapult, this channel will definitely be an avenue towards our aim as film makers to put Ugandan film on the world map’.

The channel has rich and extensive programming that caters for the entire family and will be restricted to East Africa only.
