Addressing the athletes present at the dinner, MultiChoice Uganda General Manager Charles Hamya said: “MultiChoice as a brand aspires to support local talent and see it develop in Uganda as seen through our efforts to broadcast local content on our diverse channels on the DStv and GOtv platforms. We intend to provide fully paid subscription decoders to the four training camps where the remaining athletes that didn’t qualify for the finals will be able to watch Ugandan athletes participate at the Olympic Games.”

Mr. Hamya also noted, “MultiChoice will work closely with the Uganda Olympics Committee to devise ways of supporting the team going forward.” He encouraged the team to go out and play with a winning attitude so that they can emulate what Stephen Kiprotich did in the 2012 Olympic Games.”

In his remarks, the President of the Uganda Olympic Committee, William Blick, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform the Olympics given the vigorous and lengthy training they had gone through in the residential camps.

“For the team to come this far, there has been a lot of background hard work, in terms of preparation. We are truly grateful to those who have offered their support like the President, the government, and the different companies like MultiChoice Uganda,” he added.

A day earlier, on 5th August, MultiChoice held an official screening of the opening ceremony at Liquid Silk, Village Mall in Bugolobi as a way of giving back to its subscribers. At the same event MultiChoice announced that for the next three weeks subscribers on their two platforms, DStv and GOtv would be able to watch all Gold medal events exclusively on the world of Champions SuperSports.

There will be more than 2,500 hours of the Olympics broadcast over 15 days. Coverage will include Olympics news, boxing, basketball, football, gymnastics and weightlifting. In addition SuperSport 12 will be a dedicated 24-hour Olympic news channel, which will be produced by the International Olympic Committee.

“The summer Olympics are the greatest sporting extravaganza in the world, we are proud and honoured to be able to give Ugandans the chance of watching every minute of the fantastic sporting action,” Hamya said.

He continued “DStv subscribers can enjoy the games live on four dedicated channels SS4, SS5, SS6, SS7 plus three additional channels SS12, SS13 and SS14 while SS1 and SS3 will carry overflow sporting content, mainly rugby, golf and soccer. GOtv subscribers will also experience the Olympics on three pop – up channels, SS5, SS7 and SS12 for the duration of the games”. The Super Sport Blitz channel 200 will also broadcast regular updates and direct viewers to the big events of the day.

SuperSport will also have roving reporters in Rio, with Crystal Arnold, Carol Tshabalala and James Wokabi reporting directly from various venues and the team village. Multiple live feeds will be made available to SuperSport, which will then “cherry pick” the best content, much of it with a pan-African leaning, for the Olympic channels. Every possible viewing platform will be accommodated, including live streaming via www.supersport.com and the SuperSport apps, as well as social platforms.
