Kampala, 05th Sept,2016 – The 4th Edition of the Centenary Bank-sponsored Rotary Cancer Run saw over 20,000 people unite to fight against the cancer scourge in the country at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds last Sunday.
Participants in the Centenary Bank sponsored run sweated their way up the 5km, 10km and 21km race tracks mapped out by the Rotary cancer run organizers around Kololo and Kamwokya.
Commenting on the enormous turn up at Kololo ceremonial grounds, Fred Masadde, a member of the organizing committee said, “The 4th edition of the cancer run has attracted the largest number of entrants going by the number of ticket sales we made and visibly the crowd at the grounds. We are overwhelmed by the support and togetherness of Ugandans to fight the cancer scourge in the country.”
In his flag off speech, the chief runner Prince David Wasajja thanked Centenary Bank and other corporate companies for their continued support to the cause and called upon more companies to embrace.
“Centenary Bank is committed to the growing partnership with Rotary, especially with the Rotary Cancer Programme. We need to recognise that the well-being of society depends very much on the contribution of everyone,” Mr. Fabian Kasi, Managing Director Centenary Bank noted.
The bank contributed shs110 million to this year’s run in and also supported the Rotary Health Days which gave free Cancer screening regionally.
The fight was also driven at a regional level in Arua, Mbarara, Masaka, Kyenjojo, Masindi, Gulu, Entebbe, Bushenyi, and Jinja, among others and is expected to raise at least shs500 million to equip the Rotary-Centenary Bank Cancer Ward at Nsambya Hospital with a Linear Accelerator. The machine alone costs approximately $4 million.
