Delegates from across the region to attend will include; Kenya’s Uhuru Kenyatta, John Pombe Magufuli from Tanzania, E Dr. Abeid Amani Karume, former President of Zanzibar, and H.E Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

More VVIP leaders are expected to be in the Country before close of this week for the conference

“The conference will be interactive with break-out concurrent sessions for women, youth, interfaith and intercultural peace building, education transformation, business, the parliamentary discourse and the signing of peace declaration by the Heads of State/ Government,” said Mukasa Muruli – Minister for Public service.

“You will appreciate that peace; stability and security are key ingredients and essential factors for development to take place. However, ours is a volatile region in which stability has not taken root,” Mr Mukasa said adding that: “This has worsened the poverty levels, which also fuels crime, conflict, and instability. The influx of refugees into Uganda points to a restless region. Hosting GPLC 2018 in our country is aimed at tackling the nexus between poverty and instability and how economic empowerment can stop conflict.”

This year’s theme will be “Moral and Innovative Leadership: New Models for Sustainable Peace and Development”
