Qatar Airways celebrates launch of flights to Tourist destination of Gothenburg, Sweden

Recently, Qatar Airways celebrated the grand opening of its second Swedish gateway of Gothenburg as part of the airlines’ expansion plans on the European Continent.

The celebration was hosted by the Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr Akbar Al Baker in a press conference held at the Clarion Post Hotel in Gothenburg, Sweden where he mentioned that as Qatar Airways, they are pleased to launch the new direct service to their second gateway of Gothenburg.

He added that, this particular destination is an important business centre and a growing tourist destination which is becoming more popular to visitors. He further elaborated that the new gateway will offer Swedish passengers more convenience and enhanced connectivity to an extensive choice of destinations on their global route network.

Mr Al Baker further highlighted the award winning airline’s robust expansion plans as well as commitments to flying more visitors to Sweden and connecting Gothenburg to Qatar airways extensive global network via Hamad International Airport in Doha.

Swedavia President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Jonas Abrahamsson said  that Sweden is  Scandinavia’s largest economy  and one of Europe’s strongest and therefore new direct routes are an important contributing factor as improved market connectivity is crucial for the country’s tourism, businesses, ability to attract investments and sharing of knowledge.

Mr Jonas further noted that: “We are very pleased to welcome Qatar Airways to Gothenburg, its second gateway into Sweden. We are also delighted that in five years, Qatar Airways has doubled traffic on the direct route between Doha and Stockholm, significantly increasing connectivity between Sweden and the rest of the world.”

Gothenburg is Sweden’s second largest city which is said to grow by almost a third by end of 2035. It’s also a very important industrial and business centre with the largest port in Nordic Countries.

Some of the newly previous launched destinations by Qatar Airways include Mombasa, Kenya and Da Nang, Vietnam. This year 2019, the airline will add a chain of new destinations which will comprise Valletta, Malta and Isfahan, Iran among others.
