Oman, Saudi and India reopen international borders after short closure brought on by panic over new COVID variant.
Kuwait has said it will suspend flights to and from the UK from 6 January “until further notice”, according to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
But Saudi Arabia has reopened its international borders, along with Oman and soon India, after banning UK flights in December over concerns about a new strain of COVID.
A report from Kuwait’s state news agency KUNA said that Kuwait took the decision based on recommendations from health authorities.
Kuwait was one of the very first countries in the Gulf countries to lock down its international borders at the start of the pandemic and in December 2020 the country became one of more than 40 states to block UK flights.
Saudi Arabia has taken a different approach and has resumed international flights, which has caused a sure in online flight searches, according to Dubai-based online travel marketplace Wego.
The Kingdom has put stringent COVID measures in place, including quarantines and PCR test requirements.
