Youths from across the EAC Partner States join this cycling event to take the EAC integration process from the level of abstract policy making in government offices to the people at the grassroots level to show that integration is alive and beneficial to all citizens.

This year’s safari started on 1st August, 2022 in Mombasa, Kenya, reaching Arusha in Northern Tanzania within just one week. It then headed to Burundi, Rwanda and thereafter to Uganda were the group arrived in Kampala on 7th September.

During the tour, participants camp in villages in the evenings, eating meals together with the local communities, bringing the benefits of regional integration closer to the people and sharing the EAC experience and its opportunities with the citizens.

The tour of 2022 has three key aims: promoting the goals of the EAC; promoting trade and tourism across the Community, and; mitigating challenges posed by climate change.

Over the last four years, the Great African Cycling Safari has successfully staged progressive cycling tours through all East African capitals under the banner of East African Bicycle Tour also known as Tour d’l:AC. These tours have brought together local and international biking enthusiasts from all walks of life to experience the unique terrain and exotic culture, create awareness and promote the integration of East Africans and Africans in general.

The Great African Cycling Safari Tour presents a unique opportunity for the integration of the East African Community on a global stage, unified by the power of sports. It is dependent on strategic financing through funds raised from sponsorships, partnerships, event fees and the sale of promotional materials.

The next stop for the cyclists will be at Mwanga on the foot of the North Pare Mountains, and from there they will proceed to Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, Bujumbura, Kigali and Kampala before arriving in Nairobi for the Grand Finale on 25th September, 2022.
