01. Buganda Kingdom, UTB partner to promote and develop tourist attractions and sites as they unveil the Royal Mile walk

Buganda Kingdom through Buganda Heritage Tourism Board (BHTB ) has tapped onto support from Government through Uganda Tourism Board to add value, create awareness, create employment and promote the Kingdoms’ tourist sites and attractions which have in the past been least attended to.

This partnership was started with a Royal mile walk Familiarization trip on Saturday at Bulange Mengo (the Parliament of Buganda and oldest Parliament in East Africa ) to the Official Palace of the King of Buganda (Mengo Palace) navigating through the historic and famous tourism Royal mile road mediated by a roundabout called ‘’Ntawetwa’’ designed with super iconic monuments showcasing the rich culture of Buganda people and their diverse clan segmentations.

02. Emirates, Flydubai innovate more on Dubai’s Connectivity with more choices for Travelers since Reactivation of Strategic Partnership

Emirates and flydubai are delivering on their customer promise to reintroduce more convenience, choice and seamless connectivity for travelers across their combined network, which is expected to reach 168 destinations by the end of May.

Since the revival of their strategic codeshare partnership in early September 2020, close to 500,000 passengers have flown on the Emirates-flydubai combined network, taking advantage of optimized schedules, connections and baggage transfers through Dubai, all on a single ticket. Top destinations booked through the codeshare include Kabul, Kathmandu, Kyiv, the Maldives and Zanzibar.

03. UTB Flags off Joshua Cheptegei to participate in the 60th Ostrava Golden Spike Championships in Czech Republic

Destination Uganda’s tourism Ambassador and also Gold medallist and world record holder in last year’s 10,000m and 5,000m race – Joshua Cheptegei was on Saturday during the weekend flagged off by Uganda Tourism Board Marketing Manager Claire Mugabi for the World Athletic Continental Tour (the 60th Ostrava Golden Spike Championships) in Czech Republic Ostrava City  scheduled to take place on Wednesday May 19th 2021 in a 3,000m sprint as a build-up race for the fourth coming Tokyo Olympics slated to run between 30th July till August 15th  2021 in Tokyo, Japan.

Hopeful to win Cheptegei anticipates returning home with an accolade given the veterans’ athletic edition that will host upto 1,500 participants from different parts of the World in a scientific athletic championship to be aired on Supersport 9 and Social Media platforms.

04. Two UAE Airlines seal off flights to Israel

UAE-based carriers Etihad Airways and flydubai have opted to cut their services to Israel for the time being. The decision comes amid rising hostilities in the country, which have already significantly impacted its air traffic. The airlines had only recently begun flying to Israel, following its establishment of diplomatic relations with the UAE last year.

Israel has recently been the scene of increasing tensions, culminating in violent rocket attacks that temporarily forced airport closures. Amid such security concerns, several airlines have opted to suspend their operations to the country in the interests of safety.

06. IATA embraces G20 push to restart Tourism

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) welcomed the agreement by the G20 Tourism Ministers to support the safe restoration of mobility by following the G20 Rome Guidelines for the Future of Tourism. IATA urged G20 governments to quickly follow up their endorsement of the guidelines with actions, particularly the five-point agenda to restore mobility safely.

07. 200 million tourists set to travel over five-day break in China according to Trip.com

According to the forecast data, the current volume of hotel bookings has achieved a 43% increase compared to the same period in 2019.

High-end hotel bookings accounted for more than 50% of total bookings over the May Day holiday. The strong domestic travel recovery in the mainland China market is further evidence that the global travel revival will have a staggered build up.

08. Brussels Airlines continues its Belgian Icons series

Six years ago, Brussels Airlines launched its first Belgian Icon with a single hand-painted aircraft carrying a never-seen-before livery. Together with Moulinsart, the airline created Rackham, an aircraft livery dedicated to the world-famous Belgian cartoon character Tintin, covered in a 37m long black shark based on the original drawing by the hand of Hergé. The Belgian Icon series is one of many ways how the airline wants to show ambassadorship for its country. The airline will continue to bring the best of Belgium to the world.

09. Kenya Airways allies with South Africa’s Airlink in interline treaty

Kenya Airways is teaming up with South Africa’s Airlink in the form of an interline agreement.

This agreement will allow for a combination of Kenya Airways/Airlink itineraries, allowing passengers from one airline to connect to additional destinations on the other carrier’s network.

10. Uganda starts off use of drones tech to fight poaching and wildlife trafficking

As technological advances keep bringing in better solutions to modern day challenges, Uganda is turning to technology to fight poachers and wildlife trafficking through the use of surveillance drones.

As reported by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), the country secured funding from the United Nations Development Programme to procure surveillance drones that will man parts of its protected areas, which are not routinely patrolled by rangers, and camera traps that will help identify poachers and intruders at porous entrances to game parks.
