01. KLM starts ramping up its flight Schedule for the summer season – The Dutch airline said on Tuesday (June 2nd) that it would be making the majority of additions in Southern Europe. 02. Etihad Airways activates new connection flights linking 20 Cities – Etihad Airways is launching new transfer services linking 20 cities in Europe, Asia and Australia via Abu Dhabi from 10 June. 04. Harvard Tops world’s best university list for the 9th year now – The Center for World University Rankings, a consulting firm that publishes the largest academic ranking of global universities, looked at universities across the world based on four primary indicators: quality of education (25%), alumni employment (25%), quality of faculty (10%), and research performance (40%, consisting of research output, quality of publications, influence, and citations). 05. Brussels Airlines relaunched destination list, with starting date and frequency – The Airlines last week filed planned European operation between June and August 2020, as the airline set to resume scheduled passenger service on 15th June 2020. The Star Alliance carrier plans to operate following European routes effective 15 June 2020, although planned operation remains subject to change, pending on various travel restrictions. 06. Increased State ownership in Airlines likely in a debt-ridden market – More airlines could soon find themselves under state ownership if governments decide to swap debt repayments for shares in the carriers they have bailed out in recent weeks.

That is according to the industry’s largest airline representative body, which has warned that debt-ridden airlines could fail under the weight of the repayments to the governments that bailed them out of the coronavirus crisis. Read more via https://bit.ly/2YootDs

07. Turkish Airlines optimistic to restart International passenger flights – Turkish Airlines said this week that it is still seeking permits from aviation authorities to resume international routes. The airline, which had planned to start flying internationally on June 10th, is still grounded after operations ceased at the end of March. 08. Boeing plans for 737 Max Recertification flight towards June End – Boeing has made plans to carry out a crucial 737 Max recertification flight by the end of the month, according to reports. Unnamed sources familiar with the matter have revealed that Boeing has created a flight plan designed to demonstrate the 737 Max’s updated flight control software, which has been the subject of debate since two Max’s crashed over a year ago. 09. Being black outside Africa, travelling while African – Fay Kay: It has been sixteen days since George Floyd, a black man, was murdered by Derek Chauvin, a white police officer, in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the United States of America. The death of George Floyd has sparked an awakening in not just America but all over the world, with protests in over 50 states and 18 countries, especially amongst black communities that have continually been suppressed and oppressed, in one way or the other. I am African. Ugandan, to be more precise, and even though I didn’t experience racism growing up in Uganda (which is predominantly black), we have our own set of issues related to discrimination, like tribalism and nepotism. I’ve lived abroad a few times: in London (when I was little), in Malaysia (during my undergraduate studies), and now, in Thessaloniki, Greece. Read more via https://bit.ly/3hhHNuH

10. Emirates Airlines reaffirms its green commitment on World Environment Day – While people around the planet continue to grapple with the pandemic, there’s also a call to pause and reflect on another cause – Time for Nature, the theme of the UN’s World Environment Day on 5 June. Emirates, acutely aware of its role in the planet’s natural ecosystem, has continued to make progress in the attainment of its environmental goals. The airline showcased this environment performance in its annual financial report for 2019-20, painting a holistic picture and filling in the context of its achievements.
