Travel Advisory: MoH asks intending travelers to pay for Covid-19 tests as all Certificates for such persons should bear ‘’Travel’’

According to a press statement released by Dr. Henry G. Mwebesa, the Director General Health Services on Monday 23rd November 2020 from the Office of the Director General, all Covid-19 certificates for travelers must indicate ‘’TRAVEL’’ as the sole purpose.

This alarm comes after travelers were disguising as ‘’Contacts’’ and ‘’Alerts’’ in line with Covid-19 positively tested persons so as to have tests done at no single cost given the test for free privilege such categories have.

However, the Ministry of Health through the Office of the Director General comprehensively cautions travelers that bearing a Covid-19 Certificate that indicates  ’’Contacts’’ and ‘’Alerts’ ‘is invalid as such persons are not allowed  to fly out of Uganda even if they tested negative from the samples taken from them.

Dr. Henry G. Mwebesa, the Director General Health Services in the Office of the Director General  states that, ‘’Travelers contemplating to fly out of Uganda have been urged to pay for a Covid-19 test at any Government facility that comes at a cost of Shs180, 000 (USD48.1) at any Stanbic Bank branch under Account Name: MOH COVID-19 TESTING FUNDS and Account Number: 9030017657983 and take a copy of a valid payment slip to any accredited Government sample collection site for sample gathering that will then be forwarded to accredited laboratories for sample analysis and testing as Results of the test will be issued between 24 to 48 hours’’.

He further adds that, ‘’Travelers that wish to have tests done at any private accredited facility have been allowed to proceed within the same time frame’’.

Lastly, the Ministry of Health also clarified that all travelers are also required to have a Covid-19 negative Certificate taken within 120 hours prior to departure and not within 72 hours as it has been the order of the day as the 120 hours commence from the initial day the sample is taken for testing.
