Spokesperson, Dr Saif Al Dhaheri revealed that residents can travel to their home countries and return to the UAE.

In addition, residents and citizens will be allowed to travel for study, receiving medical treatment, the mission or diplomatic mission and the official mission of government and private sector employees.

Everyone wishing to travel must apply through the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (smartservices.ica.gov.ae).

A statement from NAECDM said: “It also allows businessmen in the commercial and economic sectors to travel as well as residents of the UAE who wish to travel to their countries and return.”

Applications will be determined on the level of risk and health status in order countries, with some requiring a laboratory test for the Covid-19 virus 48 hours before travel, which will not be allowed unless the test comes back negative.

Those suffering chronic diseases and people over the age of 70 are advised not to travel, unless it is for treatment abroad.

Upon return to the UAE, travellers must do a PCR examination at the airport and home quarantine for 14 days – this is reduced to seven days for returnees from low-risk countries.

As stated previously, those who cannot quarantine at home must pay for their own quarantine stay in a hotel, or stay in the health institutions designated by authorities.
