Uganda Airlines has announced the addition of three new routes to its expanding network, connecting Abuja, Lusaka, and Harare. Flights to Abuja will commence on September 12th, followed by Lusaka and Harare on September 25th, 2024.
Jennifer Bamuturaki, Chief Executive Officer of Uganda Airlines, hailed this expansion as a major milestone in anticipation of the airline’s fifth anniversary celebrations in August 2024.
“The entry into these markets is designed to create an efficient and optimized regional network that will support and finance a more lucrative long-haul market as we grow and utilize our fleet,” Bamuturaki stated.
Bamuturaki expressed her confidence in the airline’s mission to connect Africa, emphasizing the focus on underserved routes backed by thorough feasibility studies. She highlighted that these new routes mark the successful completion of the airline’s 3-year strategic plan and set the stage for the next phase of its 10-year rolling plan.
With these additions, Uganda Airlines now serves 16 destinations. Other established routes include Nairobi, Mombasa, Dar es Salaam, Bujumbura, Johannesburg, Dubai, Zanzibar, Lagos, Kinshasa, Mumbai, Mogadishu, Juba, and Kilimanjaro.
In recent years, Uganda Airlines has seen impressive growth, with a 20% increase in traffic at Entebbe International Airport and significant revenue growth. Operating 19 flights daily, the airline has also expanded its cargo operations.
Bamuturaki reiterated her confidence in the airline’s vision to connect Africa, focusing on underserved routes guided by feasibility studies, and noted that the launch of these new routes successfully concludes the airline’s 3-year strategic plan, paving the way for the next phase of its 10-year rolling plan.
