Following the recent successful test air flights, Uganda National Airlines Company Limited has been issued with an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) by the Civil Aviation Authority. This document officially permits the airlines to kick start commercial flights.
The AOC will list the aircraft types and registrations to be used, for what purpose and in what area-specific airports or geographic region it will operate.
After receiving the license, Uganda Airlines took to its Facebook page a post that read, “This is the biggest milestone in operationalizing our commercial flights.”
On their tweeter page, Uganda Airlines revealed that, “There is no news as great as hearing this! Long way you have come Uganda Airlines and you are almost there, that is the beauty in it all. We cannot wait to fly the crane.”
The renewable license was issued on July 26, 2019 and will expire on July 25, 2020. Uganda Airlines postponed its maiden flight from July 31 to end of August following the delay to acquire the Air Operator
The start date was revealed by the Minister of Works and Transport Monica Azuba Ntege who in her interview told journalists that the airline will be able to fly in August with launch routes being Nairobi, Dar Es Salaam, and Mogadishu.
The earlier performed test air flights to regional destinations were a notable requirement for the operator to have personnel assets and system in place to ensure the airline’s safety, its employees and the general public.
This requires the operator to have personnel, assets, and system in place to ensure the safety of its employees and the general public with two other airbuses expected to be delivered within the next two years as Uganda ounce again claims its place as one of the countries high in the skies.
