Uganda Airlines official flight takes Off to Nairobi

On Tuesday, Uganda’s national carrier – Uganda Airlines made its first inaugural flight to Kenya’s capital – Nairobi setting off from Entebbe International Airport.

The official flight included officials from the Ministry of Works and Transport, Ministry of Tourism, Government of Uganda, Media and Golola Moses Uganda’s kickboxing champion.

This official flight set off at exactly 11:10 hours from Entebbe to Nairobi where it was received with a water salute at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.



 

While presiding over a ceremony held at Entebbe International Airport, Hon. Engineer Monica Azuba Ntege lauded the Government of Uganda for such a great initiative reviving the national Airlines, a great milestone she believes will help travelers contemplating coming in and leaving Uganda.

She revealed that;’’ Today is such a historical day now that we have launched the long awaited Uganda Airlines, its been close to two years since we started advocating for the revival of the national airlines, a public infrastructure that will help travelers and also greatly contribute to Uganda’s foreign exchange. This Airline you see today comes in as part of the 2016 NRM manifesto pledge to revive the national airlines that will serve the entire region.

Engineer Monica further noted that the Airlines will not only look forward to bringing and flying out people strictly on business or traveling for any other purpose but also act a key stakeholder in boosting Uganda’s tourism sector as we believe multitudes of tourists will use the infrastructure to travel here.

Representing the President of Uganda – Prime Minister of Uganda, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda commented that; ‘’Today, it’s a pleasure now that we are here to act witnesses of the historical inaugural flight to Nairobi, Kenya, we ordered for four (4) CRJ900 Bombardiers of which two are here with us while more two will be delivered in September 2019 and these are to cater for regional flights across the East African region. Furthermore, we made another purchase order for the A330 Airbuses that will cater for long haul flights to other regions across Africa and the entire world and these are to be delivered by 2020.

The official flight ceremony was later spiced up by a Cake cut that was served to all guests who attended.

The Airlines will serve upto seven (7) destinations and these include; Nairobi, Bujumbura, Dar re Salaam, Juba, Kilimanjaro, Mogadishu and Mombasa. Currently all flights are on promotional fares and this will last for two months.
