On the 3rd and 4th of July 2019, Uganda will be a beehive of activity as Blockchain Association of Uganda and CryptoSavannah, in collaboration with the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance host the 2nd edition of Blockchain Conference and Africa’s biggest Tech Expo, at the Kampala Serena Conference Center.
An estimated 3,000 participants from all circles of the world are expected to be in attendance to talk about leading technology innovations and how Africa can position herself to take lead in the 4th Industrial revolution.
This year’s conference will run under the theme “Africa 4.0: Preparing Africa for the 4th Industrial Revolution”
The main focus during this conference will be on what the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) is, what opportunities it presents, what threats it poses and what Africa must do to leverage 4IR for its development.
Also, alongside the conference, will run the “Africa 4.0 Tech Expo,” an empirical journey showcasing the leading technology innovations and applications on the African continent.
Commenting about the event, CryptoSavannah CEO Kwame Rugunda, who doubles as the chairman of the Africa Blockchain Conference, said that they have provided platforms for different players in the tourism industry to tap into the guest list and invite guests during and after the conference to explore and appreciate the prodigies of the country.
“We do not even have to take the participants very far. We shall invite them to go as far as Jinja, as this is good enough to show how beautiful Uganda is,” Mr Rugunda said.
Organizers from CryptoSavannah, have remarked that the conference will also pose a chance for Uganda to showcase her beauty to the world in that this will be a grand opportunity to boost the recent tourism drives initiated by the ministry of Tourism, code named Tulambule (let us tour), which are aimed at promoting local tourism.
Uganda currently hosts close to two million tourists and according to Minister Godfrey Kiwanda, the target is to raise that number to three million this year. Game viewing is the most popular tourist activity in Uganda. Wild animals like lions, buffaloes, giraffes, antelopes, elephants are common in Uganda’s ten national parks. Uganda is one of only ten countries where it is possible to visit endangered gorillas. Mountain gorillas are Uganda’s prime tourist attraction.
The Conference and Tech Expo will host many personalities from both the public and private sector, experts and leaders from global technology companies, entrepreneurs, innovators, youth and government representatives.
The Sierra Leone President, H.E. Julius Maada Bio will also be in attendance and will deliver the keynote speech at the conference. H.E. President Yoweri Museveni, president of the Republic of Uganda will later address the gathering too.
There will also be a panel discussion with the audience on the conference theme, and how innovation could be hitched to quicken Africa’s transformation process.
