Unvaccinated & Unrecovered persons still affected by EU Travel restrictions

With the Covid-19 disease taking surge in European countries, unvaccinated and unrecovered EU nationals will continue to be subject to strict entry rules when travelling to the other member states.

Through its latest recommendation, the Council of the European Union suggested that COVID-19 measures should be applied based on travelers’ vaccination status rather than the situation of their origin country.

However, since infection cases are increasing rapidly, it has been emphasised that stricter rules must apply to travellers from countries that are part of the dark-red list, especially for persons who are unable to meet basic COVID-19 entry rules.

“Member states should apply measures regarding travel to and from dark red areas, where the virus is circulating at very high levels. They should, in particular, discourage all non-essential travel and require persons arriving from those areas who are not in possession of a vaccination or recovery certificate to undergo a test prior to departure and to quarantine after arrival,” the statement of the Council reads.

Following this, unvaccinated and unrecovered travellers from all EU countries must follow pre-entry testing and quarantine rules when reaching the other member States.

On the other hand, persons who have already been vaccinated or recovered from the COVID-19 disease will be able to travel within the EU under facilitated restrictions, provided that their certificates meet their destination country’s validity rules.- Advertisement –
