Following the enormous pressure to provide permits for Gorilla tracking, the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has had difficulties in effectively rendering out its services.

In a bid to improve on the service, the authority recently came out and stated guidelines they follow while issuing out the permits.

However, in an endeavor to enforce these guidelines, the authority has been misunderstood to have introduced new measures and some concerns have been raised by various stakeholders and thus need for some clarifications.

The authority has received a high demand for gorilla permits during the past 3 months. Uganda Wildlife Authority stated that, on several instances, visitors had traveled to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for gorilla tracking without a confirmation that they will get a permit and had ended up placing a lot of pressure on the authority to provide permits even when there is none.

In order to address the need, the authority increased the number of gorilla families for tracking from 15 to 17, following the successful habituation of Katwe group in Buhoma and Christmas group in Nkuringo.
