UWA registers birth of new baby mountain gorilla

The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) on Sunday registered the birth of a new baby gorilla born by an adult female gorilla named Twijukye of the Mukiza family in the Ruhija sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Southwestern Uganda.

The new birth currently increases the Mukiza family to 16 members.

According to the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) 2018 Gorilla census, population stood at 1,004 individuals with two populations although there has been a baby boom recently with  seven new born babies born since January 2019 according to the Uganda Wildlife Service (UWS) and  five new baby gorilla births registered by Uganda Wildlife Authority in 2020,  plus one new  born baby gorilla for 2022 that came into the World over the weekend.
