UWEC joins-hands with Australian zoo to counter check wildlife extinction

Following the rapid extinction of some fauna species around the world, concern has raised among different wildlife bodies to protect their fauna and retard its extinction.

In pursuit to protect Uganda’s endangered fauna species and secure a species-rich future, Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC) has joined hands with Zoo Victoria of Australia.

While commenting about this partnership, the minister of tourism, wildlife and antiquities Ephraim Kamuntu applauded UWEC for taking a step and improving the facility.

“There is the floating hotel in advanced degrees of completion. The onus is to make UWEC a place that cannot be ignored by travelers, researchers, wildlife lovers and people visiting relatives.” remarked the minister.

Also, the executive director, James Musinguzi commented that the pattern ship between the two entities was a multi-pronged venture which was expected to bear fruits.

He also added that the animal welfare which includes nutrition and veterinary services was so Paramount. “This is in addition to capacity building of veterinarians, zookeepers, laboratory technologists, curators, and all required staff.” he added.

The UWEC manager of information and education, David Musingo said that there is the academic feature that was focused at promoting a conservation education strategy for Uganda.

“UWEC will support conservation education programs and activities in communities and schools. This will be in addition to the development of conservation education materials to support the teaching of the national school curriculum.” explained Musingo.
