World Tourism Organization Urges Nations to Digitalize Tourism for Greater Impact on Their Economies

During the 3-day World Conference on sustainable tourism held recently in the Spanish city of Oviedo from 25 – 27 June 2018, World Tourism Organisation – Secretary General, Zurab Pololikashvili advised on adapting new technologies for digitalizing tourism if nations are to impact on their Economies.

“Technology helps us to better manage our social, cultural and environmental impacts. And if well managed, tourism can act as an agent of positive change for more sustainable lifestyles, destinations, and consumption and production patterns”, said Mr. Pololikashvili

The Conference featured two days of detailing on destinations and routes geared on effective digitalization, techniques of how destinations can utilize technological advances like big data and geo – localizations for sustainable management of tourism were highlighted.

The conference also brought together start-ups and academics to foster on smart ways, innovations and sustainable solutions to the sector.
