Dfcu Bank cautions local Media over malicious propaganda

Dfcu bank, one of Uganda’s biggest financial institutions has for the last 10 months battled with malicious propaganda by Uganda’s tabloids and blogs all aimed at tarnishing the institutions business position and cause panic to partners and customers.

This October, the bank through their lawyers; Kalenge, Bwanika, Sawa and Company advocates in a letter dated 5th October 2018 summoned Rajiv Ruparelia who is alleged to be master minding local blogs thereby leading  dfcu bank’s fake news campaign after a successful acquisition of Crane Bank Limited (Receivership), assets and Liabilities.

Dfcu Bank through their legal team maintain that, Rajiv has been paying operators of Online news sites and blogs to spread falsehoods about the bank and their senior management with intent to create an impression that the bank is in a precarious financial situation, an ownership and management crisis which is not right all aimed to collapse the institution.

Dfcu legal team established that blogs such as; Spy Reports (spyreports.net), Eagle Online (eagle.co.ug), Kyamuterera.com, Cr!me24 (thecrime24.com), The Ugandan.com.ug and PML Daily (pmldaily.com) along with others published false content against the Bank.

Also pinned out bloggers and influencers include; Raymond Wamala, Muhereza Kyamuterera, Wanambwa, Jacob Seaman, Stephen Muneza Kagabo, Maurice Muhwezi and Javira at illest wrote and published falsehoods  against dfcu bank.

The bank’s legal team clarifies this is Computer misuse and offensive communication contrary to Section 25 of the Computer Misuse Act No 2 of 2011.

The bank through their lawyers; Kalenge, Bwanika, Sawa and Company advocates took to prior notice of the perpetrators  to immediately cease and desist from the unlawful and harmful activities and appealed to the subjected (Rajiv) to publish an apology for having engaged in  nefarious and malicious campaign or else a criminal complaint will be undertaken leading to civil proceedings.
