Government to halt repatriation of Ugandans to pave way for decongestion of quarantine centers

The government of Uganda will starting August 25, 2020 halt the repatriation exercise of Ugandans stuck abroad due to the Corona virus lockdown. According to Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Judith Nabakooba the move is intended to pave way for decongestion of quarantine centers with claims that center organisers are getting overwhelmed by the quarantined numbers well as new cases confirmed continue to grow worrying.

While briefing the media yesterday Sunday 18th August 2020, the minister said an additional 286 Ugandan Nationals and legal residents who have been stranded in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan following the closure of Entebbe International Airport due to the COVID-19 pandemic had safely returned home and were being taken watch of through the mandatory quarantine procedure.

Nakooba also warned the public against the growing public laxity in complying with the guidelines in place to prevent the spread of COVID19. She said the country is entering a critical stage in its fight against COVID -19.

“Government is concerned about the rising number of COVID-19 deaths. Currently, the total number of the dead is 13 and all these are within a space of less than one month,” Nabakooba said.
