History Remade: Jacob Kiplimo’s Record-Equaling Triumph at Sevens Hills Road Race

On a momentous Sunday in Nijmegen, Netherlands, Ugandan long-distance sensation Jacob Kiplimo etched his name in the annals of history, mirroring the achievement of his compatriot Joshua Cheptegei. The Sevens Hills road race witnessed Kiplimo’s triumphant flight over the undulating terrain, culminating in a winning time of 41.05, precisely matching the 2018 world record set by Cheptegei.

Hot on his heels, countryman Rogers Kibet crossed the finish line in 42 minutes and 44 seconds, while Kenya’s Amos Serem secured a commendable third place with a time of 43 minutes and 47 seconds.

By the 5km mark, Kiplimo blazed through with a scorching pace, clocking 14 minutes and 24 seconds, averaging an astonishing 2 minutes and 54 seconds per kilometer. At the 10km point, his velocity intensified to 2 minutes and 35 seconds per kilometer, tallying a total of 30 minutes and 35 seconds. A final sprint saw Kiplimo charging at a remarkable 2 minutes and 31 seconds per kilometer as he crossed the finish line, declaring, “It is great joy for me that I have made history in the 15-kilometer road racing.”

In the women’s category, Uganda’s Stella Chesang clinched a respectable third place, completing the race in 48 minutes and 2 seconds. The women’s laurels were claimed by Kenya’s Beatrice Chepkoech, crossing the finish line at 47 minutes and 12 seconds.

Peter Chelangat, the elated Ugandan coach of Kiplimo, expressed his gratitude, commending the accomplished long-distance athlete for bestowing pride upon Uganda. “He did us proud; it was a super run for him,” Chelangat exulted.
