Kenya Airways to offer special charter flights between Nairobi and London this June

As Covid-19 engulfed the Aviation space, many Countries closed down their borders and airports off from global travel and access into different destinations that left very many travelers stranded as a result due to limit – the spread of Coronavirus, a global pandemic that has left many dead across the World while many Countries till date continue to register new overwhelming cases despite the fact that some Economies are starting to reopen up for ‘’Business as Usual’ as they lift on Lockdowns while they strategize on effectively preventing spread of the virus during the new normal.

It should be recalled that, as different Countries worldwide closed off borders and Airports by March this year, many citizens who had traveled abroad and pending return to their Countries were left stranded in foreign nations even when they sought for repatriation but all in vain.

Given the current lifting of Lockdowns, many nationals stranded in foreign countries are now being given chance to reunite with their loved ones and Kenya now joins Uganda which recently brought back hundreds of stranded Citizens aboard Ethiopian Airlines that arrived at Entebbe International Airport early this week on condition that they foot their travel fare while others still stranded are advised to reach out their embassies for registration and plan on repatriation.

Starting the month of June, Kenya’s national carrier –Kenya Airways will be offering an opportunity for people to reunify with their loved ones upon booking a one way journey flight for travel from Nairobi to London scheduled for 4th June 2020 and London to Nairobi scheduled for 5th June 2020.

However, Flights to Kenya are only valid for stranded abroad Kenyan citizens intending flying back home bearing in mind that ticket price is only one way and non-refundable while infants not occupying a seat will have to pay  10% of adult rate. The airline adds that travellers who wish to pay with visa and MasterCard will have to reach out its call centre on +254711024747 or the UK office on +442082831818 as due to unavoidable circumstances the reservations team at Kenya Airways isn’t able to process visa and Master card via the website and mobile application.

Also due to fear of increased spread of Coronavirus, Kenya Airways suggests that those intending to travel on flight number KQ100 Nairobi to London on 4th June will be subjected to mandatory Covid-19 tests as the Airways has arranged for covid-19 test at any Lancet Kenya testing facility at a cost of KES 8,000.

The Airways advises all guests/passengers to proceed to any Lancet Lab for testing within 72 hours of the flight and prior to the test, passengers will be required to provide consent for results to be shared with Kenya Airways medical team and results must be received 12 hours before the flight bearing in mind that results will take upto 24hrs to be processed.

Furthermore, passengers will be entitled to present a copy of Covid-19 medical results at the check in counter and the results must be negative.

Either way, for passengers contemplating travel on flight number KQ103 London to Nairobi as of 5th June will have to arrange for their own Covid-19 tests prior to travel before boarding, they will be required to present a copy of Covid-19 medical results at the check in counter and the results must be negative.

Lastly, all passengers will mandatorily undergo a compulsory quarantine of 14-28 days at their own cost as per government of Kenya guidelines upon landing in Kenya.
