Phony Tour Operator arrested for defrauding clients

With efforts turned towards weeding out fabricated tour operators from the Tourism trade, Uganda Tourism Police in conjunction with sister agencies has detained a one Nathan Tindyebwa, Director of Humura Trips Company Ltd accused of swindling several tourists a total of about $7000.

The detainee was held captive by Uganda Tourism Police from Kasubi, Rubaga Division after being on the run for over two weeks. According to Tourism Police Commander, CP Frank Mwesigwa, the arrest was made on Sunday, March 8, 2020 after the offender had been traced up by secret squads. In accordance with several reports, the suspect is alleged to have earlier been contracted by 4 different tour groups to help them organize trips to Uganda.

It is also reported that on different junctures, the suspect was earlier engaged to take visitors of Gorilla tracking and a safari to the Murchison Falls National Park but rather surprisingly failed to meet accommodation and transportation costs after the visitors had already checked-in the country.

Police Commander, CP Frank Mwesigwa said that they had been searching for Tindyebwa after a case was reported to them by one of the tourists from the UK. “Using our intelligence we are able to track him down and arrest him.  Since then we have received more complaints and leads that further incriminate the suspect.” He additionally stated that the suspect is currently detained at Kira Police station where he is charged with obtaining money under false pretense.

According to CP Mwesigwa, Uganda Tourism Police is committed to clean up fake tour operators who continue to fraud tourists of their properties.
