RwandAir, the flag carrier of Rwanda, is celebrating the arrival of its seventh Boeing 737-800 aircraft bearing the registration 9XR-WY. This fourteen-year-old aircraft, equipped with two CFMI engines, is poised to become a vital part of RwandAir’s fleet and play a pivotal role in connecting passengers to exciting destinations across Africa and the Middle East.
Previously, this aircraft served with BBAM from December 2020 until May 2023. Now, it calls Kigali its home base and will operate on various routes, offering travelers a wide range of seating options to cater to diverse preferences. RwandAir has made it clear that passengers can expect a premium experience with 12 Business Class seats and 144 seats in Economy Class, ensuring greater flexibility for those embarking on business ventures or leisurely journeys.
With this latest addition, RwandAir’s total fleet now stands at an impressive 14 aircraft. The fleet comprises three A330s, seven Boeing 737s, and four regional aircraft. Yvonne Makolo, the airline’s CEO, expressed her excitement about this milestone, stating, “The introduction of our seventh Boeing aircraft is another major milestone for us, and I would like to thank everyone who has helped make this possible. We have been expanding our fleet over the past year and look forward to accelerating this growth to offer customers even better service and connectivity across Africa and beyond.”
However, RwandAir’s commitment to growth doesn’t stop at expanding its passenger fleet. The airline has also been keenly focused on the cargo sector. In November of the previous year, RwandAir took delivery of its first dedicated freighter aircraft, a Boeing 737-800SF. This strategic move underscores the increasing significance of cargo transport in Rwanda and the global aviation industry.
The arrival of the seventh Boeing 737-800 aircraft represents a major step forward for RwandAir. This expansion not only strengthens the airline’s passenger services but also demonstrates its commitment to enhancing cargo transport capabilities. As RwandAir continues to grow and connect passengers to exciting destinations, it plays a crucial role in advancing Rwanda’s presence in the global aviation industry.
