In December, Transport hailing Company joined the Food delivery service ”SafeBoda Food” so as to offer convenient food delivery at affordable prices to Kampalites. Today, we caught up with SafeBoda’s Head of Food Marketing Brenda Nambatya to highlight us more about the new innovation.

01.  We see you recently launched food delivery in the app. Why food?

SafeBoda’s mission is to empower local entrepreneurs to thrive, by driving the adoption of technology especially in the informal sector. And we have successfully demonstrated this by professionalizing the boda boda industry.

02.  Why food?

Food is a necessity, just like travel. According to the UN’s Food and Agricultural Organization report, food processing accounts for more 30% of the informal market and provides economic opportunity for the poor or marginalised in urban centres. We know that street food has been recommended as a good way to diversify household income, however, access to traditional and street food is still a challenge.

And this is where the SafeBoda app comes in; to provide easy access to vendors to unlock new markets and to provide customers with easy access to traditional and street food.

03.  What makes food delivery unique compared to similar service providers

As a typical Ugandan, I love traditional and street food! But more importantly, I am proud to be part of the team at SafeBoda that is pioneering food delivery using an app, to ensure that Ugandans can order for food easily.

SafeBoda has an indisputably wide and growing network of SafeBoda riders ( 18,000 to date). As experts in last mile delivery, it means we are able to deliver food at an average time of 30 minutes.

04.  Do you have any restaurants you have partnered with?

Yes, absolutely! Just like we have done with our SafeBoda riders, we are working with vendors to build a strong community of food service providers in the informal sector.

We pioneered the Kyakulya ( loosely translated as something to eat) brand, a brand that is a representation of traditional and street food which means that using the SafeBoda app, our customers can order all foods with traditional sauces of their choice like binyebwa, beef. They can even order the legendary rolex or fruits.

05.  Do you also deliver beverages, alcoholic/nonalcoholic drinks?

The SafeBoda app is a platform that provides access to our partners ( vendors). Our focus is to be able to, through the app, offer customers what they need when they need it.

06.  Which areas do you deliver to mostly? Do you go as far as Wakiso, Mukono?

We are able to deliver to the whole of Kampala, however in the next couple of months, we plan to cover up to the a much wider area including Wakiso

To place an order, all a customer has to do is to simply open the app on their home screen, tap food delivery, choose from a wide variety from our kyakulya menus, place their order, sit back and we will deliver!Appstore/ playstore icons will be placed.
