01. Uganda Airlines Showcasing its A330-NEO at the 2021 Dubai Airshow

Uganda’s national carrier, Uganda Airlines is show casing its A330-NEO at the 2021 Dubai Air Show starting 14th to 18th November in a static display at the Al Maktoum Airport (Dubai World Central-DWC). In partnership with Airbus, the national carrier will showcase part of her fleet to the world in bid to sale destination Uganda.

02. Uganda’s Kickboxing Champion Golola Moses to feature in Tourism Movie

Uganda’s Kickboxing Champion, Celebrity entertainer and actor and self-proclaimed ‘’Golola Moses of Uganda’’ is a part of a movie cast titled, “Rwenzori, The Mountains of the Moon” that is to be premiered on the 26th of November in Fort Portal during the Ekyooto Ha Mpango festival.

03. WTTC unveils net zero roadmap for tourism

WTTC, which represents the glo0bal tourism private sector, developed the roadmap in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), and Accenture. The roadmap provides concrete guidelines and recommendations to help guide tourism businesses on their journey towards net zero. By providing milestones for meaningful climate action and emissions reduction for different industries within the sector, the roadmap sets out the challenges ahead and how the Travel & Tourism sector can decarbonise and reach net zero by 2050.

04. Etihad names first female chief of HR

Etihad Airways has announced the appointment of Dr Nadia Bastaki as Chief Human Resources, Organisational Development and Asset Management Officer, becoming the first-ever female chief at the national airline of the United Arab Emirates. 

05. UK funding to support developing cities and regions transition to net zero by 2050

The UK government has on Thursday last week launched the new Urban Climate Action programme to support the cities and regions in developing countries most impacted by climate change to accelerate their transition to net zero.

06. Emirates Group announces half-year performance for 2021-22

Group revenue was US$ 6.7 billion for the first six months of 2021-22, up 81% from US$ 3.7 billion during the same period last year. This strong revenue recovery was underpinned by the easing of travel restrictions worldwide and the corresponding increase in demand for air transport as countries progressed their COVID-19 vaccination programmes. 

07. Mauritius welcomes over 80,000 holidaymakers post reopening in October

Since the reopening of Mauritius’ borders to fully vaccinated visitors on 1 October, the country has welcomed over 80,000 holidaymakers, owing to systematic travel, arrival, and follow-up protocol.

Bookings through to year end are looking extremely promising, with a targeted average growth of 25% in arrivals.

08. UK air passenger duty cut provides boost for domestic aviation

UK-based domestic airlines will see the reduction in domestic air passenger duty (APD) as a vital boost to the aviation industry. 

With demand for domestic trips rising, combined with the halving of APD in 2023, airlines could benefit extensively, says GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

09. COP26 keeps 1.5c alive and finalises Paris agreement

COP26 concluded in Glasgow with nearly 200 countries agreeing the Glasgow Climate Pact to keep 1.5C alive and finalise the outstanding elements of the Paris Agreement.  

Climate negotiators ended two weeks of intense talks on Saturday with consensus on urgently accelerating climate action.  

10. UNDP backs the revival of Uganda’s Tourism Sector through Ekyooto Ha Mpango Festival

The tourism sector was the hardest hit by COVID19 and based on an assessment that the United Nations system did in Uganda on the impacts of the pandemic, it’s projected that this sector will lose up to 5 Billion US dollars over the next five years with a profound impact on small businesses.

Due to the business ecosystem created by the tourism value chain, several informal businesses greatly rely on tourism, ranging from food and beverages, arts and crafts, transportation, clothing, nightlife, recreation, entertainment and more.
