Led by influential figures and dignitaries, including the State Minister of Tourism, Hon. Martin Mugarra Bahinduka, the campaign aimed to revitalize historical sites and bolster the tourism sector’s contribution to Busoga’s socio-economic development. The week-long event kicked off with visitors travelling from Kampala to Jinja City, where they were invited to explore iconic landmarks such as the Source of the Nile, Bujagali Falls, and the New Nile Bridge.

The campaign offered a plethora of adrenaline-pumping activities that captured the spirit of adventure. Participants had the opportunity to experience bungee jumping, quad biking, tubing on the Nile, white water rafting, and the challenging Kakungulu Hill Climbing. These activities not only provided thrills but also showcased the natural beauty of Busoga’s landscapes, from the towering Kagulu Rock to the majestic Itanda and Busowoko Falls in Jinja.

In addition to adventure, participants immersed themselves in the rich cultural heritage of Busoga. They visited historical sites such as the Kyabazinga Budumbula and Igenge palaces, where they learned about the region’s royal history. The campaign also highlighted ongoing redevelopment efforts at the Source of the Nile, aimed at enhancing the visitor experience and attracting more tourists to Jinja City.

The journey culminated in a trans-night concert at Bugembe Stadium, where tourists and locals alike came together to celebrate the vibrant culture and spirit of Busoga amidst performances from Uganda’s top musicians such as Jose Chameleone, John Blag and others.

As the Explore Busoga Tourism Campaign came to a close, government officials and stakeholders commended the efforts to promote domestic tourism and enhance the region’s tourism infrastructure. State Minister for Tourism, Martin Magara, praised the government’s commitment to the tourism industry and applauded the development initiatives underway, including the transformation of the Crested Crane Hotel to house UHTTI.

With construction nearing completion at the new UHTTI site and plans underway to modernize tourist attractions like Kagulu Rock, the Explore Busoga campaign has laid the foundation for continued growth and exploration in this dynamic region of Uganda. As we reflect on the success of this campaign, one thing is clear—Busoga’s allure as a premier tourist destination is undeniable, and its potential is limitless.
