NRM Embraces Ruparelia Foundation Scholarship Scheme

Kampala businessman Sudhir Ruparelia has lined up hundreds of scholarships to support the needy access education at Kampala Victoria University.

The scheme, run under Ruparelia Foundation’s “Support the Community Scholarship”, covers 50 percent of tuition fees of the students intending to take up degrees and diplomas for the academic year 2017/2018.

The ruling NRM party has since embraced the initiative, urging its District Chairpersons to “identify at least 10 deserving and qualified students from the communities within your district, who have capacity to pay 50 percent of the tuition fees in addition to other functional and administrative fees as may be required by the university.”

In a letter to district leaders, NRM Secretary General Kasule Lumumba observed: “Victoria University is awarding 10 slots to the NRM at every district for the 2018 intake, which commences February/March 2018 and the scholarship shall be available once the applicant submits the application forms duly endorsed by the NRM Secretariat.”

The scholarship scheme is intended to make quality of higher education affordable and promote equity in communities by supporting talented students acquire the necessary academic qualification.

The initiative comes at a time of increased tuition fees in tertiary institutions.

Lumumba further told NRM leaders the scholarship scheme is geared towards growing studentship to specific programmes, boosting and attracting talent.

It will as well help address the skills gap in the economy and address challenges of poverty through the avenue of human capital development.

Accredited by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) and the Uganda Nurses and Midwifery Council (UNMC), Victoria University has been operational for the last 7 years.

The institution boasts four Faculties (Health Sciences, Science and Technology, Business and Management, Humanities and Social Sciences) and one department (Petroleum and Gas Studies).

Entry Requirement:

Candidates must meet these selection criteria:

Must be between the ages of 18 and 35 years

Must be in possession of good matric results

iii. Must portray positive attitude

Must provide references

Must be willing to give back to the community

Must maintain a GPA of minimum 3.5 throughout the program
