Suspected Yemeni Wildlife Trafficker arrested at Ugandan Airport

A Yemeni national has been arrested and detained at Entebbe International airport-Uganda’s major airport after he was found in possession of rhino horns parked together with food stuffs to conceal their identity.

The Yemen national i dentified as Al-Maamari Maged Mutahar Ali was arrested at Entebbe airport on Saturday night 03:10 hours by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) canine unit during a luggage check in possession of 26 pieces of Rhino horns weighing 15 kilograms.

Though concealed in food items to disguise their identity, the highly trained dogs were able to detect the to be trafficked rhino horns.

On arrest, the suspect was handed over to aviation police at the airport for further management of the case.

Over the last 25 years of UWA’s existence, the institution has built capacity to detect and appropriately engage those involved in wildlife crime such as wildlife trafficking among others and ensure they face the law. UWA continues to make Uganda a dangerous place for anyone involved in wildlife trafficking.
