“The Swedish aviation industry is working intensively on electrifying aviation. We are now making a targeted investment to contribute to building knowledge and testing new technology and new solutions. At the same time, the Swedish Transport Administration will investigate how electric flights can become part of the procured air traffic,” says Infrastructure and Housing Minister Andreas Carlson.

The Swedish Transport Administration has been given a new research and innovation investment budget of at least SEK 15 million per year by the government in order to facilitate the quick adoption of electric aircraft in Sweden. In order to improve collaboration amongst the parties involved in research and innovation in the industry, the Swedish Transport Administration must also take the initiative.

The government has also given the Swedish Transport Administration the duty of determining if there are prerequisites for establishing requirements for electric aircraft in the procurement of air traffic for lines with public service duties under the current set of legislation. The authority is required to make ideas for actions that can help with the early deployment of electric aircraft on the routes if the Swedish Transport Administration thinks it necessary. The assignment must be completed no later than May 31, 2024.
