Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffths has said that the UK government is putting itself at greater risk by keeping Dubai off its air corridor list, saying many other countries allowed to enter the UK are far more dangerous.

04. Uganda suspends all flights from India due to Covid surgency

With the continued outburst of a new deadly Covid-19 strain in India, Uganda has halted all flights coming into the country directly from India and from India through other destinations after having recorded new variants of the coronavirus, including the COVID-19 strain from India.

The flight ban began on Saturday at midnight. The new directive follows the Ministry of Health researchers detecting one case of the coronavirus disease, an Indian variant, in the East African country.

05. Airlines back WHO’s recommendations on International Travel

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has urged states to comply with recommendations on international travel from the World Health Organization’s International Health Regulations (2005) Emergency Committee on testing and risk management during the COVID-19 pandemic.

06. Uganda tourism slowly revamping as hotel occupancy grows by 28 Percent

With most hotels having been completely closed due to the pandemic, little e was seen for brighter days ahead. However post the pandemic, Ugandan hotels are slowly taking foot to the old bright days.

This comes about as hotels in Uganda are recording an increase in occupancy rate, an indicator that the sector is recovering from the coronavirus crisis.

07. Airlines embrace  US – EU travel for Vaccinated Passengers

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said it is encouraged by the comments of Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission (EC), that the EU will grant unrestricted access to vaccinated travellers from the US.

“This is a step in the right direction,” said Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General.

“It gives hope to people for so many reasons—to travel, to reunite with loved ones, to develop business opportunities or to get back to work. To fulfil that hope, details of the EC’s intentions are essential.

08. Ethiopian Airlines unveils IATA Travel Pass trials

Yet another airline is announcing that it will be trialing IATA’s Travel Pass – a digital health passport that will make the verification of COVID-19 tests and vaccinations easier for the carrier. Ethiopian Airlines is now the first African carrier to run through a test of the mobile app, joining other airlines such as Emirates, SWISS, Singapore Airlines, and more.

09. Flydubai adds Batumi to summer schedule

Flydubai has added Batumi to its seasonal summer flight schedule. The carrier currently operates flights to Tbilisi International Airport (TBS) in Georgia, while it will also operate three flights per week to Batumi International Airport (BUS) between 12 May and 1 September.

Jehun Effendi, Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations and Ecommerce at flydubai, said: “We are delighted to re-launch our flights to Batumi, which have been a favourite summer destination for our travelers in previous years.

10. Dubai Airshow to help push-start Aerospace Industry, Says Board

Dubai Airshow has held the first meeting of its Advisory Board for 2021, where members analysed industry trends and discussed future strategies that will drive growth for the aerospace sector. 

The goal of the board is to help shape the 2021 programme and agenda for the Dubai Airshow, in order to elevate the event to a new level of success.

After an unprecedented time of global economic downturn and grounding of the global aerospace sector, the Dubai Airshow aims to be the restart and leader in shaping the industry’s future.
