The UK government has announced plans towards easing all the standing Covid-19 restrictions starting March 8.

The revelation was made by the British transport secretary Grant Shapps through his twitter account.

Currently, travellers to the UK need to complete locator form before arrival and unvaccinated travellers need to take a COVID-19 test before departure, along with other rules. However the government has now decided to end all the remaining rules.

Shapps took to Twitter and confirmed that all rules will end at 04:00 on Friday. He tweeted: “These changes are possible due to our vaccine rollout and mean greater freedom in time for Easter.”
This news means that now even those who are not fully vaccinated are welcomed in the country without any rules. Such travellers will not have to take any COVID-19 tests before and after entering the UK. Also, the passenger locator form rule will be abolished.

Talking about the new Covid strains in the future, the UK government said that they would use the least-stringent measures for restricting travel along with the “Living with Covid” plan.

Heathrow, the UK’s busiest airport, also said that it would end its mandatory mask rules from Wednesday. However, flyers will have to wear a mask when on routes to or from nations where local mask mandates are there.

Scotland and Wales have also decided to follow England and will end the remaining border measures.
