With Uganda airlines having revamped regional flights and recently acquiring the Airbus A330 neo, regional aviation has all taken a twist with all airlines fighting to win over customer trust.

The regions muscle head Kenya Airways (KQ) is one of the airlines taking on Uganda Airlines on major destinations which had earlier been dominated by the Kenyans.

The competition for numbers and dominance has seen regional airlines go as far as lessening their usual freight tickets as a way to lure in more customers and maintain a good customer taste.

Having attained the Airbus A330neo aircraft, Uganda Airlines said it will be flying long haul freights to Dubai, London, Guangzhou and Mumbai all which are routes that Kenya Airways currently services.

“We are going places this new year, from Entebbe to popular destinations around the world… Dubai, London, Guangzhou, Mumbai… coming soon,” wrote Ugandan Airlines on its Tweeter handle.

This means that the two airlines will fly and exploit the same market space.

Furthermore, many Ugandan travelers have over the years complained about un even and high fares being charged by Kenya Airways on the Entebbe route due to its monopoly on the route with the absence of a Ugandan national carrier.

This signals the Ugandan carrier will be keen to trigger a price war on the route.

Ethiopia Airlines, one of KQ’s fiercest rivals, has been reviving some of the stalled national carriers, mainly in the southern Africa region where it operates a substantial number of flights. Ethiopian Airlines is also seeking to set up hubs in southern, central and the Horn of Africa all which poises a tight price war.

More so, all East African countries are now poised to have national carriers by the end of this year as Burundi, which has lacked a national carrier for years now plans to launch one.
