Rated with a visa free score of 67, the Ugandan passport, which is the country’s official travel document ranks 76th in the recently released 2021 Henley Passport Index global ranking.
Having a visa free score of 67 implies that a Ugandan passport holder can access 67 countries without obtaining a visa prior to arrival. A visa is an official document that allows the bearer to legally enter a foreign country. The visa is usually stamped or glued into the bearer’s passport.
The Henley Passport Index is the original ranking of all the world’s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. The ranking is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), which maintains the world’s largest and most accurate database of travel information, and enhanced by ongoing research by the Henley & Partners Research Department.
Topping the 2021 Passport ranking is Japan which has the most powerful passport in the world for the fourth year running. Citizens and bearers of the Japanese passport can visit 191 countries in the world without a prior visa requirement.
Coming second on the list is Singapore whose passport can access 190 countries visa free. Germany and South Korea follow in the third place with both of their national travel document accessing 189 countries with no visa prerequisite.

However, this year’s ranking does not take into account any temporary travel restrictions that may have been brought in as a result of the coronavirus pandemic or any associated cause.
Among the 110 countries in this year’s list by the Henley Passport Index, Afghanistan has been ranked as the country with the worst performing passport, followed by Iraq, Syria and Pakistan respectively.
Somalia’s passport is the worst performing African passport on the list.
