Air Tanzania and Kenya Airways Initiate Cargo Partnerships

Given that Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) would have its first Boeing 767-300 freighter with a 54-ton capacity by the end of April 2023, KQ and ATCL are looking into the prospect of working together in the cargo transportation industry.

KQ Group Managing Director Allan Kilavuka expressed hope for the possibility of collaboration between the two airlines during a recent trip to Tanzania. According to Mr Kilavuka in a statement issued by ATCL, “From the available goods, equipment, and expertise, if used properly, we will increase the value and reduce the operating costs of both ATCL and KQ.”

Mr. Ladislaus Matindi, the managing director of ATCL, confirmed that they met with Mr. Kilavuka during his visit to talk about how to advance the prosperity of both airlines and their nations while taking advantage of global market opportunities. Mr. Matindi highlighted potential areas of collaboration, such as the sharing of knowledge and conducting hands-on training to boost operational effectiveness without depending on outside nations.

“The African market alone is very large and requires cooperation to exploit it, especially in the service of transporting passengers and cargo,” said Mr. Matindi. “We also talked about getting practical training, which currently requires sending experts to nations throughout Europe for two or three days of training. If similar education can be available in countries nearby, it will be preferable to raise the capacity of the two companies and bring more productivity to the society around them.”

The arrival of the anticipated cargo plane comes at a good time because there is a rising need for cargo services as a result of expanding trade and commercial activity. Perishable commodities, general cargo services, chicks and fish, pharmaceutical services, newspapers and magazines, valuable cargo, express parcels, postal and courier services, dangerous goods, and human remains are just a few of the items that ATCL wants to ship from Tanzania. This potential alliance between ATCL and KQ has the potential to improve regional cargo transportation capacities and take advantage of the numerous opportunities the African market offers. The two airlines seek to increase operational effectiveness, cut costs, and eventually deliver better services to fulfil the increasing demand for freight transportation in the area by combining their resources, knowledge, and equipment.
